The launch of Granta®, the next generation of smart home automation technolog,y was jointly announced by GEO Semiconductor, SpeechFX and VoiceVault yesterday. The initial markets for this new technology are home security, smart TV and entertainment and was recently demonstrated at the Voice Biometrics Conference in San Francisco. It is designed to use voice and vision control capabilities to enable natural user interfaces for home security and entertainment control devices .
End users can personalize how they interact with and control devices and systems in their home using Granta. Hand gestures or the unique characteristics of a user’s voice are enabled by Granta’s technology to perform various functions within the home, i.e. turning on the lights, waving a hand to adjust the thermostat, unlocking the door with a voice command etc. The devices are controlled by the command or gesture as well as the identity of the user.
According to GEO Semiconductor, SpeechFX and VoiceVault, because of their technology they are able to embed voice and vision algorithms on a tiny IC in any device to deliver at a low power and low cost highly accurate voice detection, voice biometric security and gesture video analytics.
“Due to the advancements in processing power and algorithms, technologies such as voice recognition and gesture recognition can be brought to any device in the home. Also with the proliferation of wi-fi and video compression, people can easily stay connected to their homes through their smartphones and tablets.” said Brian Gannon, VP of Marketing and Business Development at GEO Semiconductor.
“Voice enabled applications, powered on ARM cores, with voice verification is a compelling solution for a wide reach of commercial and user devices,” said Roger Dudley, CEO of SpeechFX, Inc. Home security and smart devices provides a ready-built market to expand these combined technologies.”
“VoiceVault is pleased to be providing the voice biometric component to this new solution set and to be working with GEO Semiconductor and SpeechFX,” said VoiceVault CEO, Andrew Lawson. “We know that by leveraging each of our unique technologies, we are providing incredible new applications and possibilities for connected homes.”
