“Line Corporation’s board membership arrives soon after the creation of the FIDO Japan Working Group at the end of last year…”
The FIDO Alliance has announced that it has welcomed Line Corporation to its Board of Directors.
Line is the company behind the eponymous app, a free call and messaging app along the lines of WhatsApp. It has hundreds of millions of users, and is one of the biggest social networks used in Japan.
In a statement announcing Line’s introduction to the FIDO Alliance board, Line CPO/CISO Takesh Nakayama said the company will implement “the password-less authentication methods proposed by the FIDO Alliance” into the Line app as well as other apps and future services. In so doing, the company’s leadership “expect to resolve various security and privacy concerns, including phishing, account hijacking, and unauthorized use of services, stemming from existing password authentication systems,” Nakayama added.
Line Corporation’s board membership arrives soon after the creation of the FIDO Japan Working Group at the end of last year, and represents another win for FIDO standards in the realm of social media, with Facebook having introduced FIDO-compliant 2FA support earlier this year.
