Egis Technology (or ‘Egistec’) and Suprema have teamed up to offer fingerprint biometrics technology to mobile device makers, the companies have announced. The partnership will see Egistec fingerprint sensors take advantage of Suprema’s biometric algorithm software, BioSign.
While Suprema is perhaps better known for its access control and biometric enrollment solutions, at this year’s Mobile World Congress it officially launched BioSign, an algorithm solution designed to accommodate small sensor sizes, which offered the company new opportunities in consumer technology. It’s now marketing BioSign as a solution with particularly strong applications in mid- and low-end mobile devices, where costs need to be kept low.
In a statement announcing the Egistec partnership, Suprema CEO Brian Song said that the software “is now on testing at a number of top-tier smartphone producers”. Given that Egistec sensors have been repeatedly selected by a huge global brands like Samsung for some of its mid-range smartphones, there’s a chance that Samsung is among those “top-tier” clients currently testing out the technology.
