What’s more, the news featured a large number of research reports painting a rosy picture of biometrics around the world and we had a chance to talk about law enforcement, border control and more.
Here is what the last week held in terms of biometrics news:
The Big Changes
This week we launched our new website here at FindBiometrics – a new look better suited to bring you the best information, news, interviews, featured articles and opinion pieces that the biometrics industry has to offer. To kick off our recommitment to bring you the best content in identity management, we released an interview with Samsung’s Steven Rahman which touches on the Internet of Things and his personal favorite two new biometric companies.
This week we also continued to dissect our 2014 Year in Review, taking a look ahead to what the industry picked as the most exciting verticals for 2015.

The Big Numbers
It’s still the beginning of the year, and now that CES 2015 has concluded – effectively setting the trends for the next 12 months – research firms were eager to bring us updated numbers regarding the identity markets around the world. Two reports focusing on the biometrics industry as a whole made the news this week, each painting a pleasant picture for the next five years. Meanwhile we also learned that the mobile biometrics market is looking particularly hot and the ePassport market is on the rise as well.

Border Control, National ID, Law Enforcement
Border control was a consistently popular area of application in our year in review results, and now, two full weeks into 2015, it doesn’t look like it will be cooling down. MorphoTrust USA (Safran) opened a number of TSA PreCheck enrollment locations while Vision-Box brought biometric traveler screening to Bulgarian airports.
In terms of biometric ID, we reported on a new project from Valid S.A. that will see Washington State issuing biometric drivers licenses. In Delhi, the Central Government is beginning to roll out biometric time and attendance solutions that leverage the Aadhaar national ID program.
Law enforcement made the news this week too, first with NEC announcing that the LA County Sheriff’s Department will be licensing its biometric technology through an IDaaS model in oder to better keep citizens safe. Meanwhile, Integrated Biometrics announced that its Sherlock fingerprint scanner has been integrated into the VAMPIRE mobile biometric reader, a device tailored specifically for in-the-field law enforcement applications.
