Yubico Launches YubiKey 4C Nano Authentication Key

Yubico has followed through on a promise made at the start of the year with its release of a new miniaturized version of its YubiKey 4C authentication key.

Yubico Launches YubiKey 4C Nano Authentication KeyIt’s called the YubiKey 4C Nano, and continues the pioneering work of its predecessor, which was the first multi-protocol USB-C authentication device on the market at the time of its launch. A relatively new standard, USB-C is a type of device connection that offers faster data transmission than standard USB, and supports thinner devices – the YubiKey 4C Nano being a case in point. The device is tiny at 12mm x 10.1mm x 7mm; and Yubico has designed it to be “a semi-permanent installation” for user devices, as the company put it in a statement.

This means that there’s now an even less obtrusive plug-and-play authentication key option for users of devices like the latest MacBook Pro, which only supports USB-C connections. And that will make FIDO U2F authentication with online services from the likes of Google and Facebook that much easier.

Yubico announced the new device at this week’s Microsoft Ignite conference in Orlando.
