Tobii to Demo Eye Tracking Gaming at CES 2016

January 4, 2016

Tobii to Demo Eye Tracking Gaming at CES 2016Tobii Tech is aiming to raise some eyebrows at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show with some major integrations of its eye tracking technology.

Perhaps the most high-profile such integration will be into a major video game franchise. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will leverage Tobii’s eye-tracking technology to let players aim weapons in the game simply by looking at their targets, and will also feature more subtle interactive innovations such as adjusting in-game lighting based on what the player is looking at—for example, a room that looks very dark from the outside will appear to brighten when the player enters it and their virtual eyes adjust.

Tobii technology is also going to be used in similar ways with the upcoming Tom Clancy’s The Division, also from Ubisoft, which Tobii says will come bundled with its MSI GT72 Dominator Pro Tobii notebook. Tobii says this will be the first notebook to ever come equipped with eye-tracking technology, and it’s scheduled for release this month; Tom Clancy’s The Division is slated for release in March, with further details of how users will be able to get started with the game’s Tobii-enabled interaction soon to come.

The company also plans to highlight its Windows Hello support at this year’s CES, and to show off its Tobii EyeChip and Tobii IS4 Platform, both of which have been named 2016 CES Innovation Awards Honorees.
