This week the world of biometrics turned its attention to Tampa, Florida, for a number of major industry events. Much of the findBIOMETRICS and Mobile ID World Coverage will be coming to you throughout the remainder of the month, but here’s the first impressions from the week that was.
A wide number of vendors were on the scene at the Biometric Consortium Conference, which started on Tuesday and ran through Thursday, and as a result every news item of the week ended up touching on the event.
MorphoTrust USA (Safran), named North American Company of the Year 2013 for Government Biometrics by Frost & Sullivan, had a presence on the showroom floor, made even more popular by the presence of an espresso cart where visitors could get free coffee treats. Prior to the event, findBIOMETRICS president Peter O’Neill had a chance to chat with the company’s senior vice president of government operations Jim Albers about what he had planned for his keynote presentation: the keys to success in the government space as MorphoTrust postures for a move into the commercial sector.
Lumidigm also made a big splash at the conference, showing off its multispectral technology not only at its large booth with a Rhino biometric reader (the same kind deployed at Baltimore/Washington International Airport) and sensor-under-a-water-fountain display, but also at the SekureID booth at the other end of the floor where V-Series sensors were being shown off as part of the physical access control provider’s multi-modal solution: the SID500.
The conference wasn’t without its product announcements either. Iris ID’s “iris at a distance” system, the IrisAccess iCAM D1000, was introduced at the BCC. Already selected for deployment at Doha International Airport in Qatar, the D1000 can capture, enroll and verify iris biometrics from a distance of approximately one meter.
More BCC follow up coverage will be hitting findBIOMETRICS starting Monday, as well as in depth content about the exclusive, majorly successful event Biometrics UnPlugged: Mobility Rules event held to kick off the festivities in Florida. Be sure to stay tuned to this site and Mobile ID World to be a part of the discussion.
