“And it works both ways: Travelers from Taiwan who register for the program will get expedited processing at the 54 airports participating in the US.”
Taiwan has become the latest state to join the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency’s Trusted Traveler Program.
The development arrives thanks in part to Taiwanese authorities’ implementation of automated e-Gates. Now, with the Trusted Traveler Program’s Global Entry initiative, Americans can register for expedited entry into Taiwan, with their facial and fingerprint data collected by the Taiwan National Immigration Agency.
And it works both ways: Travelers from Taiwan who register for the program will get expedited processing at the 54 airports participating in the US. They will also be eligible to participate in TSA PreCheck, a biometric pre-registration program that also offers expedited passenger screening for travelers in the US.
The move reflects the growing enthusiasm of border authorities around the world for biometric security measures, but also arrives amid increasing concerns over passengers’ privacy in the US. Nevertheless, for many travelers heading to or coming from Taiwan, Global Entry will offer a handy way to beat the long lineups for standard passenger processing.
