“…Safran notes that its enrollment system is being used by multiple India-based mobile network operators, including Airtel and Vodafone, to quickly and easily register new customers.”
Safran Identity & Security is celebrating its increasing prominence as a solutions provider for Aadhaar projects in India.
Aadhaar is the country’s national biometric ID program. By assuring a reliable link between national ID and citizens’ iris and finger biometrics, the program is finding an increasing number of applications thanks to its convenience and security, from banking to airport passenger screening.
In new statements, Safran notes that its enrollment system is being used by multiple India-based mobile network operators, including Airtel and Vodafone, to quickly and easily register new customers. Commenting on the system, Bharti Airtel India & South Asia Operations Director Ajai Puri asserted that “[a] customer can now walk into an Airtel store and walk out with an active mobile connection in a matter of a few minutes.”
Meanwhile, Safran Identity & Security technology is being used to verify the identities of driver license applicants in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, where MorphoTablets are being used to scan applicants’ fingerprints. As Safran Identity & Security’s Arunabha Goswami claims, “A few hours are all it takes to obtain a driver’s license.”
These solutions are likely to prove even more impactful as the reach of Aadhaar, which now has well over a billion citizens enrolled, continues to expand in the country.
