Kentucky’s Republic Bank has enabled two different biometric login options for its mobile banking app.
One of the new password replacement options is the fingerprint scanning Touch ID system found on all new iPhones and iPads. It’s an increasingly popular login system for a range of banks, offering an easy-to-use and relatively secure password alternative.
But the other option, Eyeprint ID, may offer even better security. The FIDO Certified system scans not only the unique vein patterns of a user’s eyes, but also related features around the eyes to construct a unique biometric ID. The system garnered a lot of positive attention among the fintech community at last year’s Money20/20 conference, and will soon be showcased at FinovateEurope.
Explaining the new biometric login options in a press release, Republic Bank CEO Steve Trager said they demonstrate the bank’s “commitment to make banking easier for our customers,” adding that by implementing them Republic Bank is “elevating our position in digital banking and security one step further.”
