NEXT Biometrics has completed testing of its A2 ASIC chip, which its CEO calls a “cornerstone” of the company’s strategy.

The company also says the chip could reduce costs by over $2.50 per module, a prospect that could offer serious appeal to client OEMs.

In a statement, Ritu Favre, the company’s new CEO, said that with its “enhanced performance, reduced size and cost reductions, this new ASIC represents a major milestone for NEXT Biometrics.”

The next-generation ASIC technology was cited as a key pillar of NEXT’s 2017 strategy in the company’s 2016 year-end update. The project’s progress suggests the company is on a steady course for the year ahead.
