NEC-Miyoshi Partnership to Bring Facial Recognition to Body Cameras

August 18, 2017

“The solution will put NEC and Miyoshi at the vanguard of an emerging security technology innovation…”

NEC is joining forces with a Singapore-based engineering services firm to integrate its facial recognition technology into a body camera system for security personnel.

NEC-Miyoshi Partnership to Bring Facial Recognition to Body CamerasMiyoshi’s body camera solution, dubbed the ‘Digital SRS’, features a low-latency audio and video transmitter and server based in a Molle tactical vest. The new partnership with NEC will see NeoFace, the company’s flagship facial recognition platform, applied to the Digital SRS’s livestreaming function, allowing for real-time biometric identification of individuals captured by the body camera, whose faces would be compared to watch list databases.

The solution will put NEC and Miyoshi at the vanguard of an emerging security technology innovation, with Digital Barriers having laid claim to the world’s first live facial recognition body camera system earlier this summer.

NEC Asia Pacific and Miyoshi say they will work together develop marketing strategies focused on the APAC region, and that they have already achieved “a pilot contract win in a Southeast Asian country’s homeland security agency”, which will test their solution in border security “and search and rescue missions in the northern borders,” according to a statement.
