Maldives Police Embrace STC Tech for Forensics

September 29, 2016

The Maldives Police Forensics Department is getting some sophisticated speech analysis technology care of IKAR Lab by STC.

Maldives Police Embrace STC Tech for ForensicsThe technology is set to be used by the Department’s Digital Forensics Lab, with STC experts having helped staff to complete training programs for the technology last month. Participants were trained to identify individuals based on recorded audio and to extract clearer samples from noisy recordings, and further training sessions are planned.

For Maldivian authorities, embracing the technology represents an opportunity to shore up the country’s reputation on security in the wake of a 2007 bombing in the capital, Malé, which STC’s experts believe to have resulted in safety fears among tourists. The Maldives economy is heavily dependent upon tourism.

While STC has lately been focused on promoting its multimodal mobile authentication solution, the company has previously demonstrated expertise in voice biometrics in particular through its SpeechPro brand.
