The new artificial intelligence boom is far-reaching, cutting across a range of sectors and applications to bring the power of sophisticated AI to bear on everything from mobile banking to healthcare. And, evidently, online porn.
Pornhub, which of course bills itself as “the premiere online destination for adult entertainment,” has announced that it has implemented a new machine learning AI system designed to tag the names of known porn performers in any video posted on the site. According to the company, the AI system is being trained on several thousand videos and official porn performer profiles to automatically identify the individuals in a given clip; then, users can up- or down-vote the automatically generated tags, providing feedback to help refine the AI system.
The solution offers obvious benefits given that Pornhub sees 10,000 videos added to the site every day, according to the company. In a statement announcing the system, Pornhub VP Corey Price explained that AI “has quickly reached a fever pitch,” and is being used by a range of companies to expedite previously time-consumer or labor-intensive processes. “And that’s exactly what we’re doing with the introduction of our AI model,” he said.
Going forward over the next year, the system’s capabilities will be expanded to allow it to identify not only facial biometrics but things like hair color, outdoor environments, sex positions, and so on to help users more easily search for the kinds of videos they want to see. It’s another application of the same kind of machine vision technology being pioneered by the likes of Google, albeit one that is aimed at a more specific audience.
