iProov-Mvine COVID Immunity Passport Moves Into Trial Phase in UK

January 13, 2021

“Our Genuine Presence Assurance technology secures the link between the citizen and Mvine’s test status solution in this project, which we think can make an important contribution to forming the national response to the COVID-19 crisis.” – Andrew Bud, CEO, iProov

iProov-Mvine COVID Immunity Passport Moves Onto Trial Phase in UK

Selfie biometrics specialist iProov has revealed that it has been working on a COVID-19 immunity passport with UK-based Mvine, and that it’s ready to move onto a trial phase.

The companies were backed by Innovate UK, an arms-length government agency, and are preparing to embark on two trials in collaboration with the National Health Service’s Directors of Public Health. The trials are expected to be completed by the end of March.

The companies have sought to rapidly develop a solution that can help to bring the country out of lockdown and back in the direction of normal, pre-pandemic life. What’s more, they have established their prototype with a total of £75,000 from Innovate UK.

Specific details about how the immunity passport functions are yet to be revealed, but in a statement announcing the prototype, iProov CEO Andrew Bud suggested that it features at least some of the same technology used in its face biometrics-based authentication solution.

“Ensuring consumer trust, security and privacy is essential to the success of projects in this space. iProov enables all three,” he said. “Our Genuine Presence Assurance technology secures the link between the citizen and Mvine’s test status solution in this project, which we think can make an important contribution to forming the national response to the COVID-19 crisis.”

The efforts help to further illustrate iProov’s prominence as a partner in government programs, after the company revealed that it had moved onto a fourth phase of a border screening pilot with the Department of Homeland Security in November.
