Interviews, Access Control, and COVID: This Week's Top Biometrics Stories

At the end of another busy week in the biometrics industry, FindBiometrics’ roundup of our top stories features items on access control, executive interviews, COVID-driven health screening, and more.

One of the most popular articles this week revolved around an interview with one of the biggest names in biometrics. Precise Biometrics CEO Stephan K Persson took some time to speak with FindBiometrics Founder Peter O’Neill in a discussion covering his firm’s YOUNiQ contactless access control solution, multimodality and liveness detection, biometric payment cards, and more:

Persson was not the only big-name biometrics executive to make it into this week’s top article roundup. Mike Tuchen, the recently appointed chief executive on Onfido, also spoke with O’Neill, in a conversation that delved into the impact of the pandemic on Onfido’s business, new opportunities emerging in the cryptocurrency and delivery spaces, and Onfido’s fight against algorithmic bias, among other issues:

Returning to the topic of access control, IDEMIA had some big news this week with its announcement of a partnership with Honeywell. The companies will work together on building management solutions that will incorporate IDEMIA’s biometric access control technology:

Honeywell Integrates IDEMIA’s Biometric Tech Into Smart Building Portfolio

We also saw some news in the logical access control space this week, with readers showing strong interest in NEXT Biometrics’ announcement of a new fingerprint sensor solution designed specifically for PCs. The solution was developed in partnership with Broadcom and an unnamed ‘top tier PC OEM customer’:

And finally, some COVID-related news: Hawaii authorities will use CLEAR’s Health Pass to let visitors skip the normally required 10-day quarantine, so long as they can confirm that have received a COVID-19 test with a negative result via CLEAR’s app. The Health Pass initiative will get underway for select flights starting February 18:
