International Launch of Vivo Nex to Spread In-Display Biometrics

July 18, 2018

International Launch of Vivo Nex to Spread In-Display BiometricsIn-display fingerprint scanning technology is poised to continue its expansion beyond the China market with the international launch of Vivo’s Nex smartphone. The company has announced that its latest flagship device will soon launch in Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Russia, and Taiwan.

It’s the third smartphone from Vivo to feature in-display sensor technology, which Vivo pioneered in its X20 Plus UD smartphone earlier this year. And while rivals like Xiaomi have followed suit, few of these devices have actually launched beyond the Chinese market. So it’s a big deal for Vivo to plan such a broad expansion for its Nex device, which could help to popularize not only Vivo’s device but in-display fingerprint sensor technology more broadly.

In a statement announcing the global launch, Vivo SVP Alex Feng emphasized the device’s innovative technology. “Vivo NEX enjoyed huge buzz from international media during its launch and we are excited to bring this ground-breaking flagship to more markets,” he said. “After many long months developing a host of new breakthrough technologies to realize this vision of the future smartphone, we are delighted to bring it to our international users.”

As for when, exactly, that will happen, unfortunately it isn’t clear. Vivo’s announcement only referred to its “plan to launch its NEX flagship” in the new markets, but hasn’t disclosed a release date for any of them.
