Intellicheck and Ipsidy Team Up on Biometric Document Recognition Solution

August 4, 2020

Intellicheck and Ipsidy are teaming up to create a more comprehensive remote identity verification platform. The joint solution will combine Intellicheck’s document recognition system with Ipsidy’s facial recognition technology, which includes liveness detection.

Intellicheck and Ipsidy Team Up on Biometric Document Recognition Solution

According to Intellicheck CEO Bryan Lewis, the new offering is designed to fight account takeover fraud, which went up 74 percent during 2019 and continues to be a problem during the COVID-19 pandemic. The solution will allow businesses to remotely verify the identities of customers accessing online services through a web browser or a mobile app.

To do so, the system will first make sure that the ID being used to open a new account is legitimate. It will then use facial recognition to match the picture on that document to a photo of the person holding it. Once the account has been created, Intellicheck and Ipsidy will provide ongoing security to thwart future account takeover attempts.

“Account opening is just the first step,” said Lewis. “There is an ongoing need to protect the business and the legitimate account holder from fraudulent account takeovers. Every request that could signal account takeover must be authenticated to prevent fraudsters from inflicting costly damage. This partnership provides multiple tools to do so.”

“Everything starts with trusted identity,” added Ipsidy CEO Phillip Kumnick. “This agreement brings together both service offerings to effectively deter identity fraud and account takeover in today’s digital world.”

Intellicheck is best known for its Retail ID solution, which helps merchants comply with identity and age verification requirements. DealerSafeGuardSolutionS recently deployed the platform to protect its Digital Compliance Enforcement platform for car dealerships, while Intellicheck itself made Retail ID available for free for a 90-day period during the pandemic.

Ipsidy, meanwhile, brought its facial recognition technology to web browsers in July. The utility will allow customers to use the platform without needing to download a separate mobile application.
