HID’s Lumidigm Tech Reaches PAD Level 2

HID's Lumidigm Tech Reaches PAD Level 2

HID’s Lumidigm V-Series fingerprint readers have attained compliance with ISO/IEC 30107-3 Presentation Attack Detection Level 2 standards, detecting and rejecting 100 percent of all attempts at authentication using fake fingerprints in testing by the iBeta group.

The evaluation program is meant to assess technologies that can block presentation attacks, in which authorized biometric credentials are mimicked in an effort to trick an authentication system. HID’s Lumidigm fingerprint scanners were already compliant with Presentation Attack Detection Level 1, which involves the use of two-dimensional images to simulate fingerprints.

PAD Level 2 ‘Spoofing’ attempts entailed the use of silicon, latest, and other sophisticated, 3D artefacts to simulate real fingerprints. ISO 30107-3 PAD Level 2 compliance requires products being evaluated to successfully detect and reject at least 99 percent of all attempted presentation attacks.

HID is known for its multispectral imaging technology, which is capable of sensing not only a fingerprint’s surface, but also its sub-dermal layers. The technology not only offers a more thorough fingerprint mapping system, but a fingerprint recognition solution that can operate across a range of environmental conditions, and with dry or wet fingerprints.

Vito Fabbrizio, the Managing Director of HID’s Biometric Business Unit, recently spoke to FindBiometrics ahead of the most recent Virtual Identity Summit, in a conversation that touched on the importance of technological innovation and the role of biometrics in air travel, among other topics.
