Gemalto’s ID Verification solution has netted the company an ACT Canada IVIE Award in the category of Privacy by Design.
Launched last spring, the ID Verification platform is aimed primary at financial institutions seeing KYC-compliant enrollment and self-service solutions. The platform can identify a wide range of ID documents in reference to a database of documents from 180 countries, and enables end users to self-enroll with a standard smartphone camera by using facial recognition technology to match the images in their selfies against those in their identity documents.
ACT Canada, meanwhile, is an industry association whose IVIE Awards celebrate innovative digital identity and payments solutions. Dr. Ann Cavoukian, Executive Director of Ryerson University’s Privacy and Big Data Institute and former Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, presented Gemalto with the award.
The award may give a market boost to Gemalto’s platform, which is already “being deployed commercially in response to global AML and KYC regulatory compliance needs,” according to Gemalto SVP Bertrand Knopf in a statement announcing the award.
