Voice biometrics developer AGNITiO and FIDO Alliance co-founder Nok Nok Labs (NNL) have teamed up to offer a FIDO Ready solution adhering to the Universal Authentication Framework (UAF) protocol. The announcement comes in anticipation of next week’s Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.
FIDO’s UAF specification refers to the passwordless authentication concept, in which a use can use biometric authentication on their device to gain access. The specification is meant to encourage advanced security technologies like voice recognition and fingerprint scanning, and to allow for multi-factor authentication for higher security. The companies say that AGNITiO’s Voice iD system – the latest iteration of which will be shown off at the MWC ShowStoppers event – and Nok Nok Labs’ S3 Authentication Suite meet these specifications and are ready for integration into mobile applications.
Speaking in a press release, representatives from both companies were keen to emphasize both the heightened security and the user convenience of their offerings.
AGNITiO CEO Emilio Martinez commented, “The next paradigm shift in user authentication needs to perfectly balance privacy with security and convenience, and there is no technology that addresses these requirements as effectively as Voice iD,” adding, “Nok Nok’s FIDO solutions allow us to simply and easily deliver FIDO-based solutions for our customers, bringing us closer to truly secure online transactions than ever before.”
NNL CEO Phillip Dunkelberger, meanwhile, said that the “partnership with AGNITiO is a major step on the path towards a more secure online environment that meets the needs of deploying organizations and users,” and noted that technologies like AGNITiO’s voice biometric capability that combine ease of use and security will help to overcome the deficiencies of the insecure username/password scheme.”
Given the increasing amounts of sensitive data being transmitted via mobile devices, the companies should expect to get a good hearing at the Mobile World Congress.
