“Acuity Principal Maxine Most estimates that there are currently about 5,600 biometric eGates and kiosks deployed at over 300 locations in 80 countries, and that this number will triple by 2022.”
The expedited traveler screening enabled by biometric technology at airports is going to continue its ascent over the next few years, suggests a new market forecast from Acuity Market Intelligence. The firm predicts that what it calls ‘Fastlane Biometric’ systems will generate $1.3 billion in revenues by 2022.
The revenues will reflect accelerating growth after 2019, which Acuity called a “critical tipping-point” for the technology in its report. Acuity Principal Maxine Most estimates that there are currently about 5,600 biometric eGates and kiosks deployed at over 300 locations in 80 countries, and that this number will triple by 2022.
“Fastlane Biometrics is a nascent market with rapid growth potential,” Most said.

The growth potential of this emerging market can already be seen in programs like TSA PreCheck and CLEAR, which both use biometric identification to speed up passenger processing for individuals who have pre-registered in the programs. Both have expanded to numerous airports, as well as other kinds of venues such as stadiums, over the last couple of years.
Further information can be found in Acuity’s Biometric Facilitation Deployment List and its Deployment Lists for ABC eGates, both of which are available from the firm’s website.
