Daon Supports Major Border Security Upgrade

Daon Supports Major Border Security UpgradeBiometric identity solutions developer Daon has helped to upgrade a major border control system in Asia, the company has announced.

The system was first implemented in 2007, when a Japan-based systems integrator integrated multimodal biometric middleware into a border control system for a major country in the Asia region. Last year, that system underwent a major overhaul as it was upgraded to the Next Generation Biometric Identification System, with Daon’s support. The company says its software was being used to manage as many as 60 million travelers’ face and fingerprint biometrics records, and that it was able to upgrade the system without any service interruptions or subsequent service interruptions.

In a statement, Daon CEO Tom Grissen said the company’s technology “is a core part of an immensely important mission critical system that is integral to national security that demands the very highest levels of scalability, availability and performance.” While the company also provides multimodal biometric solutions for commercial applications, border control deployments remain an important part of the company’s business operations, having long been a core area of expertise. In this case, the company’s support is contracted until 2018, with the possibility of a further extension.
