CyberLink Brings Face Biometrics to Industrial IoT Platform

May 22, 2020

Taiwan-based AI and facial recognition tech company CyberLink has announced a partnership that will see its FaceMe software development kit (SDK) integrated with Advantech’s FaceView industrial app, allowing it to perform real-time facial recognition and analysis for Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

CyberLink Brings Face Biometrics to Industrial IoT Platform

“We are proud to partner with Advantech in providing core facial recognition technology to FaceView that will unleash powerful capabilities such as tracking visitor traffic, analyzing customer demographics, identifying VIP visitors, and more,” said Dr. Jau Huang, CEO of CyberLink. “With FaceMe, CyberLink is one of the world’s highest ranked providers of AI facial recognition, according to NIST’s authoritative Facial Recognition Vendor Test, [and its] flexible, edge-based architecture makes it perfect to power solutions such as FaceView.”

Advantech offers a range of industrial PCs, software services and IoT-integrated solutions. It developed its new FaceView app to provide smart security and visitor analysis using facial recognition that can extract biometric data including a visitor’s age, gender and their emotions. One use case for the app is allowing businesses to better understand customers for VIP or loyalty programs.

The integration works in part due to FaceMe’s ability to run on low-power CPUs suitable for IoT and Artificial Intelligence-of-Things (AIoT) devices, while still being compatible with high-end servers, workstations and personal computers.

“As AI is the leading technology in the development of industrial IoT, Advantech is working closely with CyberLink to develop an AI facial recognition industrial app,” said Miller Chang, President of Advantech Embedded IoT Group. “With CyberLink’s cutting-edge AI engine as the core system and Advantech’s Edge AI hardware platform, FaceView aims to realize intelligent visitor management and access control in the smart city domain.”

This is not the first time these two firms have agreed to work together, as just this past December CyberLink integrated Advantech’s AIR Inference System with it’s FaceMe SDK.

These appear to be busy times for CyberLink, as the news of this deal comes just days following an announcement that it had agreed to a strategic partnership that will see its FaceMe SDK integrated with ASA Computers’ FR-1security appliance.
