CMITech has unveiled a new facial recognition platform that is able to identify people at a distance of 1.6 meters. The solution has been dubbed NovaFace, and it is geared towards access control and time and attendance applications.
NovaFace can be installed on a wall or at a turnstile, while the system itself includes an auto-zoom function to achieve a better scan at distance. The technology leverages the same integration architecture as CMITech’s existing EF-45 iris recognition platform, so current customers will be able to deploy the two solutions alongside one another with relative ease.
CMITech emphasized that NovaFace is a contactless solution, and that it is therefore a more hygienic authentication option that lowers the risk of transmission of a disease like COVID-19. Users should not be within 0.3 meters when using the device.
“The biometrics industry is urgently migrating to contactless solutions,” said CMITech CEO JJ Chae. “NovaFace fully addresses the very serious mandate of avoiding any user contact with an authentication device.”
CMITech recently released a new white paper that highlights the advantages of contactless biometrics in hospital environments. NEC and Invixium are amongst the other companies that have noted that more organizations are switching to contactless authentication options in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
