CBP Awards Vehicle Border Screening Project to Unisys

The US Customs and Border Protection agency has contracted Unisys to help authorities identify the people and individuals driving into and out of the country.

CBP Awards Vehicle Border Screening Project to UnisysCategorized as an Integrated Traveler Initiatives contract, it’s a kind of extension to the Land Border Integration project awarded to Unisys in 2010. In a statement announcing the latest contract, the company explained that it entails technical support “to maintain, enhance and refresh existing border security systems” and “to reduce processing and wait times for travelers” while offering “greater flexibility to CBP border agents through the increased use of mobile devices.”

Earlier this year, the Unisis provided technology for a biometric screening trial conducted by the CBP at a major US-Mexico land crossing, and it has also helped with biometric screening trials conducted by the CBP at two major airports. Commenting on this latest project, Unisys Federal VP Amy Rall suggested such technology would come into play again, asserting, “By taking advantage of advances in biometrics, cybersecurity and data analytics,” the CBP would further improve border security.
