VSBLTY’s computer vision technology will soon be appearing in a Canadian Tire retail outlet in British Columbia. The store is located in the Hillside Mall in Victoria, and will be using VSBLTY’s Vector software to track the number of people in its store at any given time.
The deployment is being carried out in collaboration with SYNQ, a Canadian retail security specialist that will be working with VSBLTY to develop the security system for the Hillside Canadian Tire. The automated solution will help improve public safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, since it will make it easier to enforce occupancy limits.
“Our motivation for installing this advanced technology is to assure the safety of our customers, our employees and our communities in these unprecedented times,” said Justin Young, the Dealer and Owner of the Hillside Canadian Tire. “The SYNQ/VSBLTY technology ensures accurate counting off our existing cameras, notifying our management when occupancy approaches our set limits for safe shopping in our store.”
“VSBLTY is the perfect partner for us to provide the kind of people counting and security technology so needed by retailers to safely remain open while COVID-19 is still a threat to the public,” added SYNQ CEO Nolan Wheeler.
In addition, this solution is already used by over 2,000 other retailer locations in Canada and the USA and has over 1 million users per day.
VSBLTY has steadily worked to raise its profile in Canada in the past few years. The company retained a Canadian investor relations firm in December of 2019, and then launched a smart retail pilot with the Pure Integrative Pharmacy chain in British Columbia less than month later. The company will also be providing smart retail tech for as many as 50,000 convenience stores in Mexico after signing a letter of intent with Retailigent Media and Grupo Modelo.
