Dubbed “BS PalmVote”, the module can authenticate an individual in about one second, according to BioSec; and the company says it supports an unlimited number of users.

It’s a solution that could take advantage of a growing trend around the world, with newer democracies in particular looking for technological solutions to secure free and fair elections. But with facial- and fingerprint-based technologies being more prominent in various governments’ biometrics collection efforts, BioSec’s palm vein technology could face an uphill battle in this market.

In a statement announcing the BS PalmVote solution, BioSec CEO Péter Györgydeák emphasized the advantages of biometric technology in general when it comes to voting. Not only can it help to prevent electoral fraud and ensure an election’s credibility, he said, but it also offers “simplified and faster processes and greater comfort are also part of the biometric voting experience.”

BioSec says its new BS PalmVote solution will hit the market in the first quarter of next year.
