Thales’s biometric border kiosk solution will be used by French authorities to meet the impending identity verification requirements of the Schengen Area’s Entry/Exit System, which will go into effect in 2022. Thales’s kiosks support face and fingerprint biometrics, and feature document reading capabilities:
Online fraud was another hot topic this week, with readers showing strong interest in news about a report from TransUnion. The report detailed significant increases in fraudulent transactions targeting businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a rise in attacks against individuals, with phishing being a particularly common tactic in the latter case:
On a much more positive note, this week delivered another sign of the excitement about biometric anti-fraud technology, in the form of a $25 million Series A funding round for Incode Technologies. Based on facial recognition technology, the company’s solution enables selfie-based onboarding and authentication, and iBeta-tested passive liveness detection technology that can spot the signs of attempts to trick the system with fraudulent biometric credentials:
