“Stakeholders must consider many factors when deploying large-scale fingerprint identification systems. The system must be secure, extremely accurate, fast and reasonably priced to deploy and support. This is especially true in the emerging Cloud-based enterprise and consumer Mobile Authentication markets,” said BIO-key CEO Michael DePasquale, in the announcement that the fingerprint identity solutions provider has developed a technology that accelerates large scale fingerprint matching by orders of magnitude.
The technology BIO-key boasts as a breakthrough for the industry not only increases matching speed, but also accuracy rates. The new, accelerated architecture, when tested on a typical PC, displayed results of several millions of matches per second. According to vice president and chief scientist of BIO-key International, Renat Zhdanov, PhD, this improvement is achieved using highly parallel search architecture, allowing for an increase in both speed and accuracy while allowing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products to dig deeper in their searches.
“These performance gains mean the required hardware and support costs for larger systems, or those heavily used in the Cloud from mobile devices or other sources, can now be greatly reduced, providing for thousands of times more throughput per dollar spent,” said , BIO-key International’s senior vice president of technology and development, Mira LaCous.
Concluding, DePasquale remarks on BIO-key’s COTS-based offerings, saying that even after considering the high accuracy and speed the company already guarantees, “…with this new acceleration technology, BIO-key has taken ‘matches per second per dollar’ to an entirely new level, expanding the possibilities for the entire Industry.”
