Dutch authentication solutions provider Authasas has announced a new partnership with Norway-based biometrics company NEXT Biometrics. The alliance will see the NEXT Biometrics 3010-U device – a fingerprint scanner – integrated into Authasus’ solutions.
Speaking in a press release, Authasas CEO Reinier van der Drift said his company was “delighted to work with a high quality sensor provider like NEXT Biometrics,” and added that the partnership meant that Authasas clients now “have the possibility to deploy a mass market credible fingerprint authentication device that comes in a highly attractive design and at a drastically reduced price levels.”
That last point about cost appears to be particularly important for NEXT. The company has been on a roll finding licensing partnerships around the world in large part due to its focus on low-cost fingerprint sensors, which it says has opened up new markets for biometrics. The company has also credited part of its success to “the Apple effect”, suggesting that with the TouchID system embedded on all its new mobile devices, Apple has popularized fingerprint scanning technology in the mainstream, paving the way for other fingerprint biometrics devices and applications.
