Fingerprint biometrics specialist SecuGen is going to demonstrate its newest sensor, the UN20 Serial OEM sensor, at this year’s RSA Conference, the company has announced.
First launched at the end of December, the UN20 Serial OEM sensor is a low-cost optical fingerprint sensor supported by a 1GHz processor and running on SecuGen’s NIST-certified algorithms. It’s also FAP 20 certified, and runs on an open Linux OS that allows third-party developers to customize its functionality for their own purposes.
That last feature speaks to the product’s status as the first offering in SecuGen’s Unity Biometric Development Platform (BDP) family, designed to provide developers with what SecuGen VP Jeff Brown has called “a fingerprint construction set” for OEMs. The UN20 Serial offers a case in point, with SecuGen VP of Engineering Dan Riley asserting in a press release that it “is not just a sensor, it is an entire development platform.”
Both Unity BPD in general and the UN20 Serial specifically were showcased at this year’s CES, and SecuGen says that more Unity BPD offerings will be announced in the months to come. In the meantime, RSA Conference 2016 will offer OEMs and other interested parties the chance to get a good look at the first product in what is likely to be a compelling product line.
