SecuGen Launches UN20 Serial Fingerprint Sensor

January 3, 2017

Optical fingerprint device and technology manufacturer SecuGen has released the UN20 Serial fingerprint sensor, the company has announced. Scheduled to be showcased at CES 2017 in Las Vegas this week, the UN20 Serial is a standalone, optical, OEM fingerprint sensor, boasts FBI FAP 20 certification, and bears a special distinction: it is the first of SecuGen’s Unity BDP (Biometric Development Platform) products to be released, and is currently available.SecuGen Launches UN20 Serial Fingerprint Sensor

As it’s name implies, the UN20 Serial is a serial interface sensor. This FBI certified hardware sports extraction and matching algorithms that are NIST MINEX certified, and, as is the case with all of the Unity BDP products, combines SecuGen’s U20 sensor with a fully programmable Linux system.

According to SecuGen CEO Won Lee, “Unity BDP is the culmination of a decade of effort.” A comprehensive development kit, Unity BDP allows companies to quickly and easily develop fingerprint biometrics-enabled products. Intended for integrations that demand high durability and premium quality at a low price, Unity BDP solutions are efficient on space and FBI certified. The UN20 Serial in particular is well suited for integrations in mobile devices, access control units, financial solutions (ATM, POS), and industrial equipment.

“The Unity BDP upon which the UN20 Serial is based is not just a sensor, it is an entire development platform.” said SecuGen’s VP of engineering, Dan Riley. “The UN20 Serial is just the first product springing from the Unity platform. The uses for the Unity BDP are nearly limitless. It represents a giant leap forward in OEM fingerprint technology.”

While this latest release is the first in the Unity BDP product line, it is certainly not the last. The company has stated in a press release that it will be releasing “additional UN20 OEM sensors and Unity finished products over the course of the coming months.”

SecuGen will be manning booth 21647 at CES this week from Thursday, January 5, through Sunday January 8. As previously reported by FindBiometrics, the company will also be showcasing a number of other fingerprint biometrics products, including its newly announced Hamster Pro 45 two-finger reader.
