News Roundup: On Our Way To China

June 27, 2016

Last week at FindBiometrics we saw Border Control & National ID Month culminate in the expert webinar, Biometrics and the New Era of National Security and Border Control. Our featured topics were in the industry news too as we began preparations to head to China, where this week we will be bringing you reporting from the floor of Mobile World Congress Shanghai.

Here’s a look back on all of last week’s top stories in biometrics:

National ID & Border Control Month

News Roundup: On Our Way To ChinaLast Wednesday marked the most recent entry in our renowned webinar series, Biometrics and the New Era of National Security and Border Control. The webcast brought together industry leading experts to discuss the the current and future state of biometrics in national security and border control applications.

In the industry news, we saw border control take a prominent role, with Vision-Box announcing two new ABC deployments, and the Department of Homeland Security appealing to the industry for aid in the next steps toward the (what some might call long overdue) biometric exit program in the US. National ID made headlines as well, with mobile first biometric ID  potentially on its way to Norway, students in Nigeria scheduled to received biometric ID cards, and an update on the UNHCR’s use of biometrics to help refugees keep their identities.

Law Enforcement

News Roundup: On Our Way To ChinaThe ride-share background check controversy continued to be a fixture of the news last week, with America’s TLPA throwing its voice into the call for mandated fingerprinting on all drivers in taxi-like services. Fingerprints, law enforcement, and cars also converged in another way, with Australian police examining biometric ignition locks as a method of restricting automobile access for drivers who’ve had licenses suspended. The FBI, meanwhile, signed a contract with InCadence with an eye for mobile Android-based biometric capture software. Here’s how biometrics and law enforcement made the news last week:
