Last week at FindBiometrics we brought Education Month to a close with a roundup of August’s featured theme. The industry news, meanwhile, was chock full of the usual big fingerprint headlines, upgrades in access control, a slew of national ID stories and intriguing new research reports.
Here is a rundown of last week’s top stories in identity management:
Fingerprints
In fingerprint news, last week smartphones once again did a lot of the heavy lifting. Fingerprint Cards (FPC) and Precise Biometrics announced that their tech was integrated into three new phones from QiKu, while the latter of the companies also announced a new strategic partnership with JP Sensor Corporation. We also took a look at how Precise and FPC’s technology has been implemented on the new Huawei Honor 7i.
In the meantime, NEXT Biometrics announced its newest innovation: ultra-thin fingerprint sensors, and we reported on the upgraded Touch ID functionality from 1Password. Here are the big ways fingerprints make the news last week:

Access Control
Access control was in the news last week with ZKAccess announcing an update to its V3.5 software and introducing a new device: the FV 350, which can scan fingerprints and vein patterns at the same time. Suprema also made a headline in access control with a cloud and mobility based upgrade to its BioStar solution.

Identification
National ID, voter ID and credentialing made up a considerable amount of the news last week. MorphoTrust’s mobile driver’s license solution is being tested out in Iowa, and the Arizona Department of Transportation selected NEC Corporation of America’s NeoFace solution for anti-fraud measures. Voter ID was the focus of our news from Pakistan and the Philippines last week, DEMALOG was honored by Frost & Sullivan for its work in Africa, and Imprivata was touting its palm vein authentication based patient ID offering.
