Continuing to focus on the Asian biometrics market, Swedish sensor manufacturer Fingerprint Cards AB (FPC) announced today that it has received an order from Hardware & Software Technologies Co. Ltd, its distributor in China and Taiwan, to the tune of SEK 24 million, which equates to approximately 3.6 million USD.
The new order is for FPC’s area sensor, which gained much popularity earlier this year, the company reporting that a number of projects having been pushed into 2014 as customers weighed it against Fingerprint Cards’ swipe sensor offering.
Unlike the many design wins and smartphone launches that have been putting FPC in the news in recent weeks, the order is not for mobile devices, but banking applications and government related projects.
Commenting on the manufacturer’s activities in the region, FPC president and CEO Johan Carlström said, “This order confirms our strong market leading position in the Chinese market for capacitive area sensors, where FPC has a market share exceeding 80 percent”
