EyeVerify Accuracy Demonstrated by Studies

September 17, 2015

Studies Demonstrate EyeVerify Technology's AccuracyThree independent studies have demonstrated the accuracy of EyeVerify‘s eye vein scanning technology.

Two of the studies looked at EyeVerify’s Eyeprint ID’s False Reject Rate (FRR) at different False Accept Rates (FAR). One, conducted by the University of Missouri, found that the system’s FRR at a FAR of 1/1,000 was only 0.4 percent on the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy Note 4, and that it’s FRR at a FAR of 1/50,000 was only 1.4 percent and 1.2 percent respectively. Meanwhile, a study by a Chinese technology company found Eyeprint ID’s FRR at a FAR of 1/1,000 was 0.00 percent on an iPhone 6, and 0.75 percent on a Samsung S5; looking at FRR at a FAR of 1/50,000, those numbers were 0.27 percent and 1.5 percent respectively. These results suggest that the system is highly accurate, particularly on new mobile devices.

Another study, by independent QA testing firm iBeta, tested Eyeprint ID against the Drug Enforcement Agency’s biometric standards for Electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances (EPCS) applications. The study was conducted with 118 subjects, and found that the system met the False Match Rate of 0.0001 with 95 percent accuracy; there wasn’t even a significant effect when subjects wore eyeglasses.

These results testify to the quality of EyeVerify’s flagship technology, which was integrated into the Mountain America Credit Union’s app earlier this summer, and earlier in the year found a route into a number of banking apps via a partnership with Digital Insights. As the company continues its efforts to expand its market reach, these studies should help to bolster its credibility in mobile biometric authentication.
