Delta Air Lines is promoting new efforts to improve passenger processing. Among them are staffing increases, opening new checkpoint lanes, and enabling expedited biometric passenger screening.
The measures come as the US Transportation Security Administration struggles with long wait times at airports across the country. It’s a situation that is evidently of some concern to Delta as well, which could see declines in business if travelers find the airport screening process intolerable. So Delta has teamed up with the TSA to help find—and finance—solutions.
It has also teamed up with CLEAR, a company specializing in fingerprint- and iris-based identification and authentication technologies. Its technology has seen major deployments at airports and sports stadiums, another area in which high volumes of visitors need to be processed, and as such it could offer an ideal solution for expediting passenger screening for the TSA and Delta. The latter has implemented the service with complimentary enrollment for members of its Diamond Medallion loyalty program, and is offering reduced rates to SkyMiles members. If the biometric screening proves a hit among these travelers, it could help to spur even more customers to sign up for these rewards programs, saving them time at the airport and netting Delta more business.
