Crossmatch has been contracted to help provide technology for a new US government research program.
The program was launched last summer by the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), a division of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Called Thor, it’s a research program aimed at developing anti-spoofing technologies.
Now, Crossmatch has announced that it has won a $5.8 million contract to develop “Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) technologies” for the program, according to a statement from the company. The contract extends to the year 2021, with Crossmatch tasked to work with IARPA in the development of a system that can both capture “more robust information from biometric samples” and employ authentication factors “like normalcy modeling for anomaly detection” – in other words, behavioral biometrics.
Commenting on the work, Crossmatch SVP-CTO Bill McClurg said the solutions it produces will in turn “drive new commercial opportunities and market demand”, further helping to ensure it’s a win-win with respect to the government’s security concerns and Crossmatch’s business pursuits.
