Face and fingerprint biometrics abound in this week’s roundup of FindBiometrics’ top stories. And there are a number of big names as well, including biometrics industry leaders, and a popular tech giant in the consumer sector.
Financial services has been one of the most popular application areas for biometrics over the past year, and it’s no surprise to see that one of the most popular articles of this week concerns a FinTech innovation out of China. The country’s Goldpac Group is developing a hardware wallet to house digital currency, and it will feature fingerprint authentication care of IDEX and its biometric sensors:
Another biometrics leader, meanwhile, took the spotlight with a major airport contract. IDEMIA announced that it would provide a face-based passenger boarding program for the Santos Dumont airport in Rio de Janeiro. It will support the “Embarque + Seguro” project implemented by Brazil’s Ministry of Infrastructure, in collaboration with the domestic IT company Serpro:
And another biometrics giant got reader attention this week thanks to some industry acclaim from Frost & Sullivan. NEC Corporation, renowned for its facial recognition technology among other solutions, won the 2020 Global Biometrics in Security Market Growth Innovation & Leadership Excellence Frost Radar Award:
As for the aforementioned consumer-facing tech giant, it was, of course, Apple. Another rumor popped up this week indicating that in-display fingerprint scanning will be implemented in an upcoming iPhone, this time via analysts at Barclays, who cite anonymous insiders from Apple’s supply chain in claiming that this more sophisticated version of Touch ID will arrive in the iPhone 13:
And finally, a lot of readers proved to be interested in an agreement between face biometrics and smart signage specialist VSBLTY and Mexico’s Grupo Modelo and Retailigent Media. The companies will work together to bring an in-store media network to thousands of convenience stores and bodegas in the country:
