Apple has just about hit the 1,000-mark for its roster of bank and credit union supporters. The addition of 32 new partners brings the total to 998, and if you include retailers that issue their own payment cards, Apple’s list of card issuing supporters has met the 1,000 milestone.
With most major US card issuers already having previously backed the mPayment platform, its group of new supporters is once again composed mostly of smaller community and niche financial services organizations. But every little bit helps as Apple seeks to solidify its base in the US while fending off rivals like Samsung Pay and Android Pay.
The breakthrough follows quickly on Apple’s announcement this week that Apple Pay is now a payment option at more than two million locations, and that in-store support will soon arrive for Crate & Barrel, Chick-fil-A, and Au Bon Pain. The platform also appears to be seeing growth in its in-app payments option, with online retailer Zappos also now integrating Apple Pay support.
