Scriptel Corporation, a company specializing in the digitization of penmanship, has announced a new piece of software that will allow users to import their signatures into a number of popular digital document formats including Word and Adobe Acrobat docs. The software, called Sign and Save, will work in conjunction with the company’s ScripTouch hardware.
Scriptel’s ScripTouch products are basically electronic pads designed to record signatures that are written on them. The new Sign and Save software is basically an enhancement in compatibility, as now anyone using a ScripTouch device can import an e-signature into documents on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. The software is free, and Scriptel has left it open for modification via the command line, so third-party developers can customize it to suit their purposes.
Scriptel seems to have handled this pretty smartly: They’re trying to sell their ScripTouch pads, and a good way to get hardware sold is to give customers compatible, useful, open-source software for free. Moreover, the software can save signatures as both SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) files and CSV (Comma Separated Value) files; the latter data format allows for biometric and forensic analysis, meaning that companies riding the biometrics security wave in security and mobile applications could be inclined to incorporate ScripTouch into their overall security frameworks.
