One million crossings of the IRIS* barrier delivered by Sagem Sécurité to the United Kingdom - May 16, 2008

Montrouge, Sagem Sécurité is delighted to announce that since January 2006, the IRIS* automated biometric border crossing systems delivered to the United Kingdom have successfully identified over one million passengers. These identification systems are used for the automated ID checks of pre-enrolled travellers at borders. They are based on iris recognition and ensure frequent travellers a fast, secure immigration process in Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester airports.

Real-time verification by Immigration Officers of arriving passengers’ entitlement to enter the country can be a time-consuming process. With the IRIS* biometric barrier, any frequent traveller citizen of a European Union country can enrol in the system before travelling by registering his unique iris pattern as his identifier. Once enrolled, the passenger can pass through the IRIS* barrier by proving his iris identity. The IRIS* system allows trusted travellers to self-process through immigration control quickly and without need for further checks.

This important milestone follows Sagem Sécurité’s selection in Oman and Jordan for the deployment of identification systems based on iris recognition at over 100 sites, mainly border control crossing stations and airports. It confirms Sagem Sécurité’s expertise and world leading position in multi-biometric technologies.
