Precise Biometrics‘ flagship algorithm software, has found its way into a new tablet, the company has announced. The company’s Precise BioMatch Mobile system is now powering the fingerprint sensor of Huawei’s MediaPad M2 tablet, the first Huawei tablet to sport such a feature.
It could be a sign of things to come. While Precise Biometrics’ technology has been integrated into a wide variety of smartphones, tablet applications are unusual; but now that fingerprint scanners are becoming almost standard features of smartphones, they may quickly move onto tablets. Indeed, it was Apple that pioneered the smartphone fingerprint sensor on its iPhones, and that company has also made the feature standard on its newer iPads, so if it’s still perceived as the company to emulate, many others may follow Huawei’s example here.
For its part, Huawei is a longtime client of both Precise Biometrics and its hardware partner Fingerprint Cards, which has provided Precise BioMatch Mobile-enabled fingerprint sensors for a number of Huawei smartphones. Given this latest foray into a new category of devices, it looks like the business relationships between these companies remain strong and will likely continue for some time.
