Interview with Mark A. Clifton, Vice President, Products + Services Division at SRI

Our big differentiator is that we work in a less constrained environment so we can do iris recognition on the move, at a distance and now we have also added in various lighting conditions including in broad daylight. We are currently developing the ability to do iris recognition at an off-angle. You don’t even have to be looking exactly straight on. We’ve been doing some research in that area and it is possible to recognize irises at an off-angle. Our product line starts with the N-Glance, which is really the lowest price unit that we have designed for doorway access control. We have indoor and outdoor versions of that. I think we are the only company that does promote the ability to do iris recognition outside. In fact, we use it here at our facility in Princeton for our employees at the front door to gain access. So instead of using their RFID card they can use iris to enter the building. We are also introducing a drive-through system, so that you can…

Fulcrum Biometrics Partners with IriTech for Online Sales of IriShield Iris Recognition Scanner Systems

Fulcrum Biometrics, a leading international provider, distributor and integrator of biometric systems and devices, today signed a reseller agreement with IriTech, Inc that will allow Fulcrum Biometrics to sell the company’s line of IriShield™ iris recognition scanners. IriShield is an ultra-compact, low-cost, high quality ISO-compliant iris scanner system that makes implementation of biometric iris recognition technology both simple and affordable for use in a wide variety of applications such as access control, time and attendance, point-of-sale, voter registration, population census and mobile banking systems.

With a low volume price point beginning at US$190, Fulcrum Biometrics is now offering the IriShield as either a complete USB desktop system or as an embedded module for use in portable devices like tablets and smart phones and other larger hardware systems such as entry gates. Both IriShield systems include an auto-capture camera module, built-in iris recognition technology and an available PKI-based security infrastructure that ensures complete data security. Furthermore, IriShield runs on Android, Linux and Windows operating systems and supports both remote and on-board ISO-compliant compressed image generation and identification.

The iris recognition algorithms used in the IriShield modules were top ranked both in accuracy and interoperability by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST’s) IREX test.

Brand New Signs Agreement with Iris ID

Biometric identity and access management continues to enjoy growth despite the fact that it has never worked 100% successfully using only a traditional fingerprint scan. Increasingly, organisations are looking for a more accurate, less invasive technology to incorporate into their access control and other ID management systems. Iris recognition readily fills this requirement with its reliability and stability – a person’s unique iris pattern is formed by 10 months of age, and remains consistent throughout one’s life. No physical contact is required, and a person can be authenticated in less than two seconds, making user acceptance more likely.

Supporting this growing interest in the technology, Brand New Technologies is pleased to announce it has signed a reseller agreement with Iris ID, a US-based leader in the provision of biometric authentication solutions employing iris recognition.

“The Iris ID offering fits perfectly into our biometric ID management solutions set,” explains Dave Crawshay-Hall, Chief Technology Officer for Brand New Technologies. “We are constantly seeking out new technologies to keep our portfolio at the leading edge of biometric identification. Iris recognition is beginning to make real inroads in the industry and we are very pleased we can now offer some of the best of these solutions to our clients.”
