Slovakia-based Innovatrics has announced a powerful new biometric algorithm that can match 720 million fingerprints per second.
It’s part of the company’s recently-launched Automated Fingerprint Identification System platform, and represents a considerable advancement of Innovatrics’ technology. The company says it has increased its matching speed by 88 percent in comparison to its previous algorithm.
There’s good reason to expect that it’s robust with respect to accuracy and efficacy too. In National Institute of Standards and Technology testing last year, the company’s biometric fingerprint software passed the high bar of the MINEX III test; and while Innovatrics hasn’t announced any such testing for its newest algorithm, it presumably builds upon the same technological foundation.
In a statement announcing the algorithm upgrade, Innovatrics CTO Jan Lunter said it “delivers extraordinary results,” allowing the company to offer “the fastest AFIS solution available on the market in identity management projects.” With its remarkable matching speed, the algorithm could be a particularly impactful solution in high-volume deployments such as biometric elections, border control screening, and so on.
