The parent company of Alaska Airlines has added two new members to its board. Kathy Savitt and Dhiren Fonseca will both join the Alaska Air Group board as the company moves forward with technological innovations that it hopes will give it a competitive edge in the market.
Ms Savitt’s is in marketing and communications, having had high-profile stints at Yahoo! and American Eagle Outfitters, and founded her own PR agency; while Mr. Fonseca was chief commercial officer at Expedia Inc., previously having worked for Microsoft. Both new board members seem to be interested in using technological advancement to push company growth, and could therefore help steer Alaska Airlines’ prospective implementation of biometric scanning, which the company believes could greatly improve customer service by allowing fast and more secure check-ins for passengers.
It would seem to be a good time to really make that push. The TSA has opened its doors to private partnerships with security firms like MorphoTrust, and the global security screening market continues to grow as governments such as Singapore begin to embrace the possibilities of biometric security systems at their transport terminals.
