“…given NEC’s previous successful law enforcement deployments with its NeoFace technology, NeoFace Idm will likely find some interested clients for this new software.”
NEC has announced a new offering based on its NeoFace facial recognition technology.
Called NeoFace Image data mining, or NeoFace Idm, the software is designed to scan through video footage for specified faces. Not only that, though: It can search for those faces within specific time parameters, or for instances in which one individual’s face appears onscreen at the same time as another’s. And it’s fast; NEC says the system can search through footage featuring a million faces in about 10 seconds.
It’s a technology that has obvious applications in law enforcement investigations and surveillance, and given NEC’s previous successful law enforcement deployments with its NeoFace technology, NeoFace Idm will likely find some interested clients for this new software. But in a statement announcing the new system, a company executive also pointed to potential applications in marketing – another area NEC has been exploring with its smart signage solution. It’s a system that offers benefits to any organization looking for advanced video search capabilities that would take a seeming eternity to perform manually.
