Up-and-coming mobile OEM BLU Products has announced a new smartphone. Called the BLU Studio Touch, the device combines a number of sophisticated features—including biometric authentication—into one inexpensive package.
Despite its $99 price tag, the BLU Studio Touch features an HD display, a 1GHz quad-core processor, 4G LTE connectivity, 8GB of memory, dual 8MP and 5MP cameras, and an aluminum chassis. It also features what BLU Products calls an “ultra-fast fingerprint security sensor”.
Summing it up in a statement, BLU Products CEO Samuel Ohev-Zion called the device a great choice for consumers who want a premium device “without having to spend hundreds of dollars.”
While the BLU Studio Touch’s low price is remarkable in its own right, it also further heralds the arrival of biometric technology at the bottom of the smartphone price spectrum, following quickly on the heels of ZTE’s announcement of the ZMax Pro, its own $99 smartphone that also features a fingerprint sensor. These emerging devices validate a recent market research report predicting that all smartphones shipped in 2018 will feature fingerprint sensors.
