SRI International Receives Patent for Voice-Based Search Technology
New Technology Available for Use in Mobile Handset and Media Players, Navigation Products, Call Centers, and for Online Search and Retail Applications
Menlo Park, CA.,– SRI International, an independent nonprofit research and development organization, today announced that it has been issued a second U.S. patent for its voice-to-database (V2DB) technology that enables one-step, voice-based access to items in vast, multimillion-record databases.
SRI's one-step approach allows users to receive accurate information using a natural interaction style, saving time and eliminating tedious and lengthy prompt menus used in some consumer device and call center user interfaces.
SRI's technology can work with currently available speech recognition systems, enabling fast access to frequently searched items such as contacts, song and ringtone downloads, addresses, driving directions, and catalog items.
The recently awarded patent joins SRI's other issued and pending patents in a speech recognition technology portfolio that includes 87 claims. The portfolio is focused on using a speech recognition system to search massive databases.
"Consumers increasingly require immediacy and ease of use to find information or to purchase digital content," said Horacio Franco, Eng. D., chief scientist, SRI Speech Technology and Research Laboratory and a co-inventor of the V2DB technology. "A voice-based user interface that uses SRI's V2DB technology gives service providers and device makers a compelling way to let consumers retrieve valuable information faster, increasing customer satisfaction and transaction completion rates."
SRI is actively seeking partners who will employ V2DB technology in their products and services, including search, direction finding, directory assistance and others.
Interested parties may contact Doug Bercow, director of business development, at 650-859-5187.
